POEM OF THE DAY: 'DROPS IN THE BUCKET'

NationalPoetryMonth

Drops in the Bucket

by Kay Ryan

At first
each drop
makes its
own pack
against the tin.
In time
there is a
thin lacquer
which is
layered and
relayered
till there’s
a quantity
of water
with its
own skin
and sense
of purpose,
shocked at
each new violation
of its surface.

April is National Poetry Month and was established by the Academy of American Poets. Throughout the U.S. poets, libraries, schools, and booksellers celebrate poetry through programs and events. Check out our calendar for poetry-themed programs for all ages, and come to the library to contribute to our community poetry board.
