Federal Government Apps

The apps featured here were developed by government agencies; they provide easy access to official information and services from your mobile device. This is a selected list of apps; many more government apps and more information about the apps  featured below can be found on's Mobile Access Gallery  or  Mobile Acess Gallery A-Z pages.  In addition, the U.S. National Library of Medicine's Gallery of Mobile Apps and Sites features many health and wellness-related apps.


Ask Karen, a USDA app, provides 24/7 virtual assistance and tips on food safety, storage, labeling, and more. Explore a menu of most popular questions and answers or e-mail, chat with a live representative, or call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline directly from the app.


My TSA provides airport delay information updated in real time as well as information on the time required to get through airport security. Information about what can and cannot be brought onto an airplane and details about TSA’s new advanced imaging technology are readily available as well. A Civil Rights Complaints form can be submitted right from your mobile device.

USPS Mobile can be used to track packages, request to hold mail or schedule a pick up, check prices, and look up zip codes. The application can scan barcodes on shipping label receipts, making it easy to check the delivery status of a shipment.

The White House: News from the White House, press briefing room, photo and video archives and live streams from events with the President and administration officials.

America's Economy, from the U.S. Census Bureau, provides real-time updates for 16 key economic indicators (employment, manufacturing, international trade, retail sales, residential construction and sales, and more) released from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Science.gov1, an Energy Department app created as a tool to help kids with homework, is a very powerful search engine that checks science data from 12 federal agencies going back to 1990, and over 50 scientific databases.

SBA, a Small Business Administration app, provides access to Small Business Administration-affiliated advisers near you where you can get free, personal, one-on-one help with starting and growing your business. You can even use the app to calculate your starting costs.

USAJOBS, from the Office of Personnel Management, provides listings of government job opportunities and lets you search for a specific agency or field jobs and set up alerts for when new positions become available. You can even get your resume on file and keep track of which jobs you’ve applied for.

Get Human  provides the fastest way to get customer service by phone, chat, email, or even by having the company call you back; contains thousands of company phone numbers that are typically hard to find, as well as customer reviews.

Illinois Legal Aid provides plain-language legal information for issues like divorce, custody, criminal records, small claims, eviction, foreclosure, unemployment, name change, guardianship and more. It has FAQs, step-by-step instructions and referrals to helpful organizations. 


Enjoy Illinois is the the official travel app of the Illinois Office of Tourism. Browse by region or interest,  look for what attractions are near you or create a trip – more than 10,000 attractions are at your fingertips. App demo video
