Allen County Public Library: Located in Ft. Wayne, IN, its' collection contains more than 350,000 printed volumes, including family histories; census records; city directories; and more; and one of the largest English language genealogy and local history periodical collections in the world.
Castle Garden: Free searchable database of passenger lists and photos between 1832-1892. Free registration required.
Cook County Genealogy Online: A searchable database from the Cook County Clerk's office of birth, death and marriage records.
Cyndi's List: A portal of genealogical website links. There are more than 270,900 links in more than 150 categories.
Ellis Island Foundation: Free searchable database of passenger lists and photos between 1892-1924. Free registration required.
FamilySearch: Access original census and vital records online from the Family History Library Library.
Illinois State Archives Genealogy Research: Lists state and related federal government records in the Illinois State Archives. Provides link to the Illinois Regional Archives for listings of county, township, and municipal government records.
National Archives: This site contains information on the kinds of records held by the US government, explains what information is contained in those records, and how to order copies of the records.
Newberry Library: Located in Chicago, its collection includes over 17,000 published genealogies; local history collections from U.S., Canada, and the British Isles; military records covering the colonial war through the Civil War; and many other resources.
USGenWeb: This is an organization of volunteers who have scanned and transcribed hundreds of census records, local vital records, newspaper accounts, gravestone inscriptions, and more for each of the 50 states.
WorldGenWeb: This is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing genealogical and historical records and resources for world-wide access!
