How do I become a teen volunteer?
Click here to submit an online application. The Teen Librarian will typically contact you within two days of receiving your application.
What do Teen Volunteers do?
That all depends on you! We will do our best to match you with opportunities and tasks best suited to your interests and availability as indicated in your volunteer application. Possible duties include:
Assisting in programs and story-times for children
Helping with getting ready for craft programs
Decorating and organizing the Teen Space
Cleaning books and other library materials
Reviewing teen books, movies, and more
Offering ideas for new teen programs and ways to improve teen services at the library
Attending TLC every month!
When can I volunteer/How many hours can I get?
Once you become an official Teen Volunteer, we will schedule you accorting to your availability and library needs. For example, if you would like to volunteer on a weekly basis, we may be able to assign you to ongoing drop-in duties such as book cleaning. Volunteers for programs and other special duties are needed on a less regular basis.
Why should I volunteer?
Teen Volunteers earn valuable experience that looks great on college applications and resumes. Many Teen Volunteers ask for and receive letters of recommendation from the Teen Librarian. Volunteering at the library is also a great way to give back to your community while earning a great reputation. Volunteering is fun. The library treats teen volunteers to parties and other social gatherings throughout the year.
Teen Library Council (TLC)
Earn an hour of volunteer service every month by attending TLC. During TLC, volunteers meet in the Teen Space to discuss and help plan programs, crafts, and other activities for teens at the library with the Teen Librarian. New members seeking volunteer and leadership opportunities are always welcome!
