The Youth Services Department offers a range of computers and tablets available exclusively for use by children aged 12 and under.
Early Literacy Computer
An Early Literacy Station is preloaded with fun games for preschoolers and elementary-aged children. This computer also provides limited internet access using the ELF browser, which allows children to safely access carefully chosen, highly engaging, free-use educational resources on the internet.
Internet Computers
Three Internet computers offer unrestricted access to the web for children ages 12 and under. Children must be at least 8 years old, with parental consent on file, to use these computers unattended. Children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult or guardian at all times when using the Internet computers. Youth Services internet computers are limited to 1 hour of use per day per child.
Homework Computer
One homework computer has access to Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel), Google Docs, and the Library's online resources and Catalog. There is no maximum time limit on this computer, but it does not have access to email or general internet searching.
Tablets
Three tablets are loaded with librarian-selected apps. A wide variety of available apps are aimed at preschool children who are developing early literacy skills and educational and game apps for older children. Tablets are not internet-enabled and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
