Introduction

Gertrude Biesman lived in Morton Grove all her life. In this April 1986 interview, she told of her father working for Poehlmann Brothers greenhouses driving the horse from Plant A to Plant B. Her mother worked for a short time at one of the onion houses in town separating the onions by size.

Gertrude also mentioned chores that were done at home, her schooling and unpaved streets in earlier Morton Grove. She lived in the family home and described the house and how her mother did laundry for the family without the conveniences of today.
