Introduction

Carl Kraemer was born in 1910 in Chicago where his father had a butcher shop. His parents came to Morton Grove in 1922, and Carl has lived here for 64 years. He remembers learning to speak German from his parents, the roadhouses in town, and Poehlmann’s Greenhouses.

Carl also talks about his family’s poultry business they had on their nine-and-a-half acre farm located near Dempster and where the Edens Expressway is today. He recalls the first Morton Grove Days at the park where the library is now located and points out that Morton Grove was a close community when he was growing up.
