Introduction

Caroline Harrer Heuel was the daughter and youngest child of George Harrer, first mayor of Morton Grove. She remembers her father working on village business in their living room and sometimes assisting him. Mr. Harrer had built a large greenhouse on Theobald Road. Caroline recalls many details of the day-to-day operation of their greenhouse business.

Caroline talks of family life and their house. As the youngest of nine, she listened to what her older siblings discussed. She calls herself “the tag-along.”
